I decided to throw my first ever holiday PaRtY this year.... and it was a success. I made my own invitations, mailed them out the old fashioned way. Set up my home for christmas festivities, downloaded the perfect mix of christmas songs, lit the candles, and decided to cook (welll.... helped Nate cook is more like it).
The parties theme was a gingerbread house contest so each party goer was required to bring a bag of candy and 5 dollars. Candy for the houses, money for the contest (all cash went into a pot and the winner of the contest took it all home). They were also asked to each bring something to share for the pot luck.
Since this was the first time I had thrown a little fiesta I took it pretty seriously. I asked people for their commitment a month early (to help ease my intense anxiety of flakes and empty party) and over invited a tad. There ended up being 19 people there, and that was after there were 5 last minuet cancelations (thank goodness). My apartment is a good size, especially for LA, but we were shoulder to shoulder the whole evening. The day of the party Nate and seperated with our lists and ran around town getting last min. things taken care of. Then we cranked up the Christmas music and cooked our little hearts out. (stuffed pumpkins, sweedish meatballs, veggie plate, cookies, eggnog, moose tracks... it was a feast).
It ended up being a very very rainy and cold night which was perfect because it added to the feeling so well. The contest part of the night was hilarious. Everyone brought their date or friend and partnered up together to make there homes. True colors were in full force and made me laugh the entire night. There was frosting, candy, veggies (someone utilized broccoli as a tree) and a lot of mess everywhere and the smiles were consistent.
I will admit I was very stressed making everything perfect, but I had the time of my life throwing the party. It was so much fun and cant wait to do it again next year.

ReplyDeleteThis looks like a blast! Wish I could live closer. I would have loved cooking and setting things up with you, then I would have gladly let you do the entertaining-the-guests part!
