Siena was interesting. The town boasts a lot of character and pride and has been able to stay true to historic traditions in many ways. Siena is the home to the oldest road in Italy, Monte dei Paschi di Siena - which is the oldest bank in Europe (which is going through some controversial issues), and the Palio de Siena which is a world famous annually held Horse Race (that they take very seriously). The people of Siena claim their main square to be top 3 most beautiful in the world - I will let you decide.
Stopping at a farm/vineyard in Tuscany checked off a bullet point on my bucket list. For a long time I have wanted to be able to enjoy Italian food overlooking the Tuscan vineyards... and that is just what we did. After a short tour of the grounds we sat down for some pasta, salad, cheese and meats. I could have spent all day there.
After lunch we stopped at what may be my favorite little town in the world, San Gimignano. There was not much local life in this quaint and ancient town, but the architecture and style of every street and corner was exquisite. If you cant tell by now, the buildings and townscapes were a highlight for me in Italy. San Gimignano took the cake for most perfect town you will ever experience.
Finally we ended the day in Pisa. The tower was fun to see, but we were pretty worn out at this point. So we took the awful cheesy photos and then headed back.
That evening we decided if we had to eat another slice of pizza or piece of noodle we would choke. So, we found a solution. A Mexican restaurant named Tijuana right across the street from our hotel. So good- hit our top meals in Italy list. Not even kidding.
