Bora Bora

Stop two of our incredible honeymoon was my favorite stop... Bora Bora.  Bora Bora is the most beautiful place I have ever been to.  The water is a blue unlike any other blue, and pretty shallow all the way around.  All hotels are built with huts out on the water, and other than hotels, there is not a whole lot there other than enormous yachts, which means it is a lot of super classy people and not much to do but relax.  Which is just what we did.

We flew into Bora Bora from Moorea (an hour flight).  The airport is such an awesome place.  You fly in on a small plane and walk into the airport side of this small small building.  Halfway through the building (all of ten steps in) the airport turns into the boat station and on the other side of the building is water and boats docking in and out to pick up guests and take them to their hotels.  I am not doing the description justice, it was a really really fun way to be ushered into a new place.

After waiting a while for our boat (the last and most hilarious of the boats) we were taxied out to our resort.  There is only one main road around the island (as in Moorea), and most of the hotels are built on the Motu (outside ring of the Island/waters) which means the main source of transportation around Bora Bora is through boats.  I was in heaven.

We stayed in over water huts in Bora Bora, it was amazing.  So peaceful and exclusive feeling.  Our hut had a full living room, bedroom and fab bathroom all surrounded by a two level deck.  In our living room there was a coffee table that was all glass and looked down into the water bellow.  You could slide the top open and feed the fish with food they provided which was a favorite on the list of things to do by my husband.

In Bora Bora we went out to eat often (Bloody Mary's is the quite famous place to eat.  We went twice even though it wasn't our favorite).  We did TONS of laying out on our decks (didn't spend any time on the beach, because why would you if you can dive right off your private deck into the bluest clearest warmest water you have EVER seen).  Read and read and read.  Spent a day at an awesome spa.  Took the Jet Skis out for a few hours- where we were arms length from two large humpback wales for a half an hour.  Kayaked.  And snorkeled.  It was heaven.

(Side story on the spa.  Its as must.  When you check into the spa they give you a bag with flip flops and a sarong and tell you to put your bathing sute on and wrap the sarong around you after you change and are in the relaxation room.  I did just that and met Nate out in the relaxation area waiting to be called for our massages.  He however decided the sarong was too girly and was just in his swim trunks, ditching the sarong all together.  The massage therapists found us and ushered us to the best room in the house for a couple's massage.  The room was incredible.  All glass walls looking out into the blue ocean and beneath the tables the ground was all glass so during your massage you just watched hundreds of the most amazing fish swimming bellow you.  As we walk in the therapists give us each one of those awful disposable underwear thongs and instruct us to completely undress except for the thong.  Then they leave us for a second.  This is when it gets really good.  Nate, who believes all massages should be done dressed, or at least with underwear, looked at the banana hammock he was instructed to wear and just about fell over.  As I was laughing hysterically the two of us change into the most flimsy tissue paper thongs and climb on our beds feeling totally violated.  Looking at the beds we realized there were no blankets to climb into, thus the need for the sarongs.  I placed mine over my body... and Nate threw his hands up in the air and placed his big boy body in nothing but his paper thin banana hammock and sprawled out for the therapists.  They walked in and his therapist immediately started blushing.  I was laughing so hard I could barely breath.  Good times)

This was my kind of vacation.  I loved everything about it.  And I decided Honeymoons are the bomb!  Spending 10 days with my new husband was like heaven.  I had such with drawls from him after we came back to real life.

ARRIVAL

ISLAND LOVING

SUN BATHING
I wish sun bathing was a profession.  I would be a CEO.  I stocked up on magazines and books before we left and purchased tons of music I felt would enhance the island retreat, and purchased loads of teeny bikinis and sun screen.  It all came together so nicely too.  A full wall of our living room opened up to our two tier deck that was private peaceful and quite.  I blasted all of the island music from our deck so it was all you heard and stayed out in the sun until I thought I was about to have heat stroke.

My husband on the other hand is not such a fan.  He preferred read his law school books and watch ESPN under the fan of our air conditioned hut with occasional breaks to feed the fish from our living room floor.
All in all the relaxation time was much needed and we lived it up big time!
This is a glimpse (he will kill me when he sees I am posting this) of the results of Nate's tan.  We have no idea how it got so blotchy, but it did.  I LOVE Nate with a tan, makes for a real stud.

 SNORKELING
Nate's first time.
Such a great moment to be a part of.
He started with his feet firmly planted on the sand below and head held high above the water.  He then started feeling brave and his face entered the water.  He waded around like that for a while on high alert swishing quickly to make sure not fish or sharks were coming to get him.  Then before you know it the feet go up and he was swimming around with a HUGE smile on his face.  He loved it.  He only thing that got him out was at one point there was a fish that was "tracking" him and he decided he didn't want to take any chances.

My man is a strong brave baseball playing man's man.  However, he has watched one too many Shark Week shows and the ocean gives him the creeps.  So make no mistakes- he is no woosie, and this snorkeling endeavor was a large step in facing a fear.  lol.

FOOD
There are few things Nate and I like more than a good dinner out together.  So we made sure to get out for dinners every night that we could muster the energy.  Bora Bora has a pretty well known restaurant called Bloody Marys that we were really anxious to go to.  It was a fun place, the most Americanized for sure.  We ended up going twice, and enjoyed our selves both times.  Our favorite restaurant we went to was one called the Bora Bora Yacht Club.  It had a beautiful view, laid back setting and either we were REALLY hungry or the food was amazing.

This last photo makes me laugh.  Nate has recently been using his Movado watch that has no marks for any of the hours but the 12th hour.  So when we made plans to go to dinner at 5pm Nate got confused on the timing on his watch and we ended up showing up a couple hours too early.  Nothing was opened yet, so we sat at the bar eating chips and salsa and made a whole slew of friends also there a tad early.
