Bringing Home Baby

And so life began....

Bringing Carter home was a crazy intimidating thing to do.  I had always heard the moment was unforgettable, but when you are actually doing it yourself... it really stops you in your tracks.  It was so strange to reenter our home, the same we had been in for a little while and look at it completely differently.  Only three short days prior we were just the two of us with all the time in the world to... eat, sleep, shower, talk... and then just like that, we were back in that same setting, but with no clue of what we were doing or what was going on.

Barbara came that first day and stayed with us throughout the week.  Thank goodness for her.  During the day we all sat there and stared at our perfect little bundle and talked in awe about how life changing the past few days had been.  We gave Carter his first sponge bath, changed three million diapers, and worked hard to master the swaddle the way the nurses did in the hospital.

Then night came.  And all hell broke loose.  It was amazing that a 7 pounder could get three grown adults so frazzled and at a complete loss of what to do.  After a strong bout of tears we came up with a plan and got our little one down to sleep.  The rest of the week pretty much followed that same course.  Barbara ran around cleaning, cooking and guiding Nate and I.  Nate and I desperately tried to find our new normal.  And Carter... he ran the roost and stole our hearts.
Day 2 at home.
Learning that snuggling your little baby is the most delicious experience there is.

Had Barbara and I in hysterical laughter
