I felt like the central focus this year was food. We each got to pick a lunch and dinner spot, and we ate and ate and ate. Lucky for us the restaurants in Carmel are all so adorable and the food is always great. I really wanted to make it to Nepenthe for lunch this time, but the weather did not cooperate all weekend, so we replaced it with a new spot for us that I absolutely fell in love. It is called La Bicyclette, and it is amazing. We ended up going again for breakfast one morning.. divine!
The golf tournament was rough this year. It rained all weekend long, but the coldest and wettest of the days happened to be the day we were set to be on the course. I love a great day on the course, it is so peaceful and beautiful. I know nothing about golf, but the setting cant get much better. But, when it is raining and cold out... not so bueno. At one point the tournament was shut down for a few hours, so after a nice lunch Nate and I headed back to the house while the others braved out the rest of the windy wet day.
Highlights? Karly and I had a girly morning of getting our hair done at a darling salon, which I loved. The girl time was perfect and who doesn't love not having to do their own hair?? Everyone got to feel the baby move for their first time, which was fun for me to share. This baby is going to be loved, and as his mother... knowing that is just the best way to bring a baby into this world. Also, John and Laurie choose to have dinner at Spanish Bay Inn where they do bagpipes and bonfires at sundown. I loved drinking hot cocoa and spending time with our amazing group, then following it with a great dinner at Roy's.
So.. the bummer of the trip would have been the travel home. Nate and I were scheduled to fly out of Monterrey (we decided to fly not drive this year so my pregnant self didn't need to be sitting in a car for 7 hours). After waiting for about 4 hours of a delay (because of mechanical issues) with no end in site, Nate and I decided it was time to try a new way of getting home. After exhausting EVERY resource, and there were none (no flights out until Tuesday, or spend way too much on a flight we may or may not make in Fresno, San Jose or San Francisco) we decided to rent a car and drive down. The finding out our options/decision making process was a beast, but once we got in the car it all worked out nicely. We enjoyed our uninterrupted time together, had a great smooth drive and got down to San Diego for Parker in good time.
The house we stay at every year, and absolutely love.
